About Quietless

I started this writing project in early 2022, after having rambled a lot about the music I love on Instagram stories throughout 2021. I figured that if it was going to be an unquenchable desire of mine, it might as well have a dedicated place to reside.

It first started on a Blogspot site, more or less stylistically lifted from Xisuma's music blog. Over the next two years, I consistently posted once every three days for an intended audience of zero, slowly figuring out what I wanted this blog to become. At some point, I figured that I should finally bite the bullet and finally build a website for this, fully customised to my needs. Since it aligned with the two-year anniversary of the project, I threw in a name change and a fresh look, and that's where we are today.

Posting Schedule

Record/song posts every three days at 10:00pm SGT (GMT +8)

Lyric of the week posts every Sunday at 3:00pm SGT (GMT +8)

Year end posts are:
Favourite records of the year - 3rd last non-post day of the year, at 10:00pm SGT (GMT +8)
Favourite songs of the year - 2nd last non-post day of the year, at 10:00pm SGT (GMT +8)
Year in review - last non-post day of the year, at 10:00pm SGT (GMT +8)

Credits

This site was built with Next.js, Firebase, Tailwind CSS and daisyui. It was heavily modified from timlrx's blog template.

This site would not have been made a reality if not for the old blog and the old name, which kept the passion project going long enough for me to figure out how to make it better. RIP, auditoryappreciation. I have to give credit to Xisuma as well, his music blog was the tipping point for me to more-or-less steal his site template and start my own one.

  • 100 reviews milestone
    Major developments to site (introduction of Lyric Of The Week, year end lists and reflections, more comprehensive tagging system).
  • Change to Quietless
    Two-year anniversary of the project, new name and new site.
  • Implement Proper Pagination and Lazy Loading
    Plans to implement pagination and lazy loading to reduce load times and cache size, instead of downloading the entire database when site is entered.
  • Improve Text Formatting and Site Navigation
    Plans to add markdown text display instead of plaintext, as well as to re-integrate clickable text in blog posts that can link to other posts or tags, similar to the old site, but with a more streamlined design for easier upload and maintenance.
  • Streamline Uploading of Posts (backend)
    Plans to upgrade admin portal to streamline upload of posts.
  • Aesthetic Enhancement
    Plans to overhaul visual style and interactivity of posts, especially with year-end lists and reflections. Ideas include Spotify widgets, animations and graphics for special posts, customised artist pages, hubs for lists and awards.
